Mission
Valens Therapeutics is a pharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of two classes of therapeutics to treat diseases caused by the abnormal proliferation of blood vessels, and diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. Neovascular diseases like certain pathological conditions in the eye, cancer and metastasis are caused by abnormal angiogenesis. The company’s focus in neovascular diseases is on ophthalmologic disorders which offer major opportunities for improved therapies. The company's anti-angiogenic proprietary molecules and technology offer an alternative treatment with unique characteristics not observed in the available ocular therapies.
In the area of viral and other pathogen infections the company is developing a new generation therapeutic-preventive vaccine for HIV as well as therapies for other blood borne pathogens and disease causing bacteria. Despite world-wide efforts to develop a vaccine, the HIV pandemic continues unabated with millions of people living with HIV, becoming infected with HIV every year, and loosing their lives to AIDS, hence, the priority to develop an HIV vaccine. The company’s proprietary anti-HIV molecules are being screened to select lead molecules that could be used to develop the therapeutic- vaccine for both HIV treatment and prevention.
Valens’ technology platform is based on modifying disease state cell surface characteristics using compounds that impact the growth of blood vessels by disrupting protein-protein interactions in endothelial cells, or the fusion of viral and cell-membrane proteins during viral entry and infection. The technology and proprietary molecules have also potential applications in diseases caused by bacteria, fungi and parasites.
The company is building value through its intellectual property portfolio of pending patents.
