Mission
Valens
Therapeutics is a small
privately held
pharmaceutical company focusing on the development of the next
generation of novel therapeutics to address important unmet medical
needs. They include therapeutics to treat diseases caused by abnormal
angiogenesis, and diseases caused by infectious pathogens. The
company's proprietary molecules target human proteins involved in
abnormal vascular growth, pathological conditions of the eye, cancer,
tumor growth, metastasis, and other disease conditions, and proteins
from infectious pathogens including viruses and bacteria.
The
company’s platform
technology comprises a
class of compounds with enhanced physicochemical properties, highly
stable, resistant to degradation by enzymes and stable folding
structures that could potentially be developed into drug candidates
against several target areas including ophthalmology, oncology,
neurology, inflammation, and infectious diseases. The technology
consists of conjugating several different proprietary molecules to a
non-toxic, water soluble, safe, non-immunogenic and biocompatible
polymer to create novel next-generation multi-targeted therapeutics for
the treatment of a variety of human diseases, for which there are no
effective treatment.drugs. This technology is early stage but our
approach to create novel compounds could potentially bring effective
new therapies to patients with unmet medical needs.
In
the area of ophthalmology, the
company is
developing a lead product with unique characteristics not observed in
the available ocular therapies, for the treatment of ocular
pathologies. Neovascularization in the eye causes a variety of diseases
including macular degeneration, choroidal neovascularization, diabetic
retinopathy and other eye pathologies. These ophthalmologic disorders
offer major opportunities for improved therapies.
In
the area of oncology, the company
is developing a
novel multi-targeted therapeutic for the treatment of pancreatic
cancer; one of the deadliest human cancers for which there is no cure
and no effective treatment drugs.
In
the area of infectious diseases,
the company is
developing a novel multi-targeted anti-HIV therapeutic vaccine for the
treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. The lack of effective
anti-retrovirals and a prophylactic vaccine for HIV offer major
opportunities to develop novel
inhibitors for HIV and therapeutic
vaccines.
In
the area of neurology, the company
is developing
a therapy for Hungtington's disease, a desvastating disease of the
brain and the body. Some molecules have potential for HD and other
brain diseases.
Valens’
platform technology
comprises
molecules capable of modifying disease state cell characteristics. The
molecules directly impact on the cell by targeting the intracellular
interactions between proteins, and by disrupting several biological
interactions important for cell function and survival. In the case of
pathogens, the molecules impact on the fusion of viral and
cell-membrane proteins during viral infection and entry into the cell.
The technology and proprietary molecules have also potential
applications in diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria, fungi and
parasites.
The
company is building value through
its owned
intellectual property portfolio of pending patents.
