Mission
Valens Therapeutics is a pharmaceutical company focusing on the discovery and development of the next generation of novel biotherapeutics with desirable physicochemical and pharmaceutical properties. They include two classes of therapeutics to treat diseases caused by abnormal angiogenesis and diseases caused by infectious pathogens. The novel molecules specifically target human proteins involved in abnormal vascular growth, pathological conditions of the eye, cancer, tumor growth and metastasis, and microorganisms like viruses and bacteria as well as human proteins causing other disease conditions.
The company’s technology platform consists of small molecules with enhanced biological properties, chemically stable, resistant to degradation, and with stable folding structures. The molecules are target specific blockers that are covalently bound to a delivery system and are in development to create novel therapeutics for the ophthalmology, oncology, and infectious disease markets.
In the area of ophthalmology, the Company's proprietary molecules offer an alternative treatment with unique characteristics not observed in the available ocular therapies. Neovascularization in the eye causes a variety of diseases including macular degeneration, choroidal neovascularization, diabetic retinopathy and other eye diseases. These ophthalmologic disorders offer major opportunities for improved therapies.
In the area of oncology, the Company is developing a novel next generation therapeutic compound for the treatment of pancreatic cancer; one of the deadliest human cancers for which there is no cure and no effective treatment drugs. The compound specifically targets several growth factor receptors known to play a role in cancer and metastasis.
In the area of infectious diseases, the Company is developing a new generation anti-HIV therapeutic with prophylactic activity. The lack of effective therapeutics and a vaccine for HIV offer major opportunities to develop therapeutics against HIV. Novel anti-HIV lead molecules are in development to create the next generation biotherapeutic for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS.
Valens’ technology platform comprises molecules capable of modifying disease state cell characteristics. These target-specific molecules directly impact on the cell by disrupting several physicochemical and biological interactions important for cell function and survival; or impact on the fusion of viral and cell-membrane proteins during viral infection and entry into the cell. The technology and proprietary molecules have also potential applications in diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria, fungi and parasites.
The company is building value through its owned intellectual property portfolio of pending patents.
